History Is a Trust… and the New Generation Is a Partner
From One Generation to Another
Dr. Ali Fadlallah believes that differences between generations make the transmission of experiences a shared responsibility. The older generation carries what it has lived through in terms of events and experiences, while the new generation has the responsibility of learning about them through reading, awareness, and study.
“No one should say that they are still young and that it is too early for them to know about these things.”
The new generation, by virtue of its close relationship with technology, possesses tools that were not available to previous generations. A well-organized post, a short video, or simple digital content can become a means of preserving a historical experience and conveying it to others.
Everyone Can Make an Impact
The responsibility of conveying the message is no longer limited to one person. With digital media, every individual can contribute, even through a small impact, to creating content and preserving memory.
An Experience He Did Not Live Through… but Carries Its Meaning
Ali Bourji, who was injured in the explosion of a pager device, did not live through the 2006 July War, but he believes that not experiencing an event firsthand does not mean being unable to understand it or carry its meanings.
For him, history is passed from one generation to another through the heroism, sacrifices, patience, and values it carries, just as the events of Karbala have remained present despite the passing of centuries.
“We do not necessarily have to be present in history to know what happened in it.”
Before Others Write Your History
For young people, knowing history is not limited to recalling the past; it is also connected to the ability to understand the present and confront attempts to alter or distort it.
Read your history… because the memory you do not protect may be written by someone else.
From here, transmitting the history of the July War to the new generation becomes more than documenting an event that has passed; it is an attempt to preserve the experience and give the generation that did not live through it the opportunity to understand it through the voices of those who experienced it and those who continue to carry its effects to this day.
How can the new generation know what happened?
